East Ayrshire Advocacy Services

Welcome to our Parents' Service.
Our mission is to ensure that parents have a voice in situations where decisions may be made about their family’s future.

For parents who have a learning disability, acquired brain injury, mental heath issues or substance misuse issues, where their child or children are the subject of Child Protection or Childcare Proceedings.

Team Leader

I have been an Advocacy worker for 12 years now, and I feel very passionate about ensuring that the parents I support understand and have a voice in situations where decisions may be made about their family’s future.

How do we support parents?
  • Support to participate in statutory childcare and Child Protection proceedings
  • Support to communicate with other agencies involved in any Child Protection Proceedings, participate in assessment processes and any subsequent care planning where possible and via different methods such as video call, teleconferences
  • Support parents to express their views and wishes about their children, particularly at LAAC Reviews, Child Protection Meetings and Children’s Hearings
  • Support to access other appropriate services e.g. Medical Services, Addiction Services, Criminal Justice Service etc.
  • Support to engage with their Legal Representatives as required

Parents have the right to:

  • be consulted about their needs
  • be involved in the decision that affect their lives
  • be treated in a dignified manner and valued as equals
  • be included in their local communities
  • have aspirations and to be respected
